Annie Musgrove

Using the natural landscapes as inspiration, you will be working in oils to create your own response to the Blackdown Hills. The course starts with students making sketches outside as a way of collecting information before discussing composition and re-framing the image.

Working on a square canvas using oil paint and palette knives, Annie will demonstrate laying out the painting and filling in tonal areas. On the second day you will be finishing off the painting, refining areas, adding highlights and additional details. There will be time to make more than one painting during the course, which is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced painters and depending on the weather, you will be working outside as much as possible.

Annie lives and works from her studio in the Tone Valley, which lies on the Devon and Somerset border and has exhibited widely across the South West for a number of years. Working mainly in oil on canvas, she works instinctively to catch the interplay between the light, the atmosphere and the surface, before revisiting the painting until the atmosphere of the day or sudden light change is captured.

A detailed list of suggested materials will be given before this course in oil painting.
