Hester Berry

Join Hester for a full two-day workshop where she will teach her wonderful approach to landscape painting in oils. You will begin by looking at how best to gather source material and how this helps you to get started on a final piece. Then, after a brief demonstration, the class will begin their own painting.

During the workshop you will look at how one might begin on a 'blank canvas', how to build up a work, paying attention to tone and colour, how to spot problems along the way and some effective finishing touches. The class is suitable for any level of ability, whether you are new to oils or landscapes or just looking to hone your technique and improve certain aspects of your discipline.

Hester now lives and works in North Devon as a full time artist and has exhibited widely in London and the West Country. Her instructional book of Life Drawing was published by Hachette for The Tate in 2020 and between residencies and exhibitions she also teaches in a select number of highly regarded classes.

A detailed list of suggested materials will be given before this course in oil painting.
